Does this sound like your child? Reading help for dyslexia and ADHD

Struggling readers are rarely lazy and almost never “not trying.” Most kids with dyslexia or ADHD are decoding every single word from scratch, which uses up all the brainpower reading is supposed to leave for understanding.

  • Skips words, loses the line, or re-reads the same sentence
  • Guesses at words from the first letter
  • Spells the same word three different ways on one page
  • Reads slowly and forgets what the page was about
  • Fights homework or hides books
  • Has been told it’s dyslexia, ADHD, or “just a late bloomer”

What your child gains

  • Track words across the page without losing the line
  • Spell hard words correctly — even hippopotamus
  • Read more words per minute, measured against US standards
  • Understand more, because decoding stops getting in the way
  • Feel confident enough to read anything they pick up

Ten words a week, sixteen weeks per grade, kindergarten through 12th — aligned with Common Core standards.

Mastery is recorded after every session, so you can watch progress add up week by week.

Measure fluency any time with the words-per-minute Reading Race and compare against US grade-level standards.

One real session: the word in a sentence, the flashes, the word written from memory, then the Asteroid Match game. Captions are on, so you can watch with the sound off.

How the Flash Method works

Each session activates the visual, auditory, and writing parts of the brain at the same time, so children master reading and spelling together instead of one at a time.

1. Hear it in a sentence

Every word starts with meaning. Your child hears it used in a real sentence and sees its synonyms, so the word is never just letters on a screen.

2. Watch it flash

The word flashes up to 11 times — speed and count are adjustable. This trains the brain to recognize the whole word instantly, which is where fluency comes from.

3. Write it from memory

The word disappears and your child writes it out. We check the spelling on the spot, moving the word from short-term into long-term memory.

4. Play to make it stick

A quick space-themed synonym-matching game reinforces the whole set. Games can be switched off anytime for kids who focus better without them.

Who made this

I'm Kim Parra, a classroom teacher. Twenty-three years ago my own son was diagnosed with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia, and nothing the school sent home was working. So I built the flash method at our kitchen table — hear it, flash it, write it, play it — and watched him go from avoiding books to reading above grade level. I have used it with hundreds of students since, and Flashcardread is that same method, made for your living room.

What parents say

My son went from hiding his reading log to asking for his word set at breakfast. Three months in, he tested a full grade level higher.

Mr. Gonzalez

The writing step is what did it. She could always guess a word — now she can actually spell it.

Mrs. Wright

Ten minutes is the magic. My ADHD kid will do ten minutes. He will not do an hour of worksheets.

Questions parents ask

How long does a session take?

Eight to ten minutes. Most families do one session in the morning and one after school. Consistency matters far more than length.

Will this work for dyslexia or ADHD?

That is exactly who it was built for. The method activates sight, sound, and handwriting at the same time, which is what multisensory reading instruction is meant to do. Short sessions and a game reward keep attention where it needs to be.

What grade should we start in?

Start where your child is reading, not where they are enrolled. The free reading check and the words-per-minute Reading Race will point you to the right level in a few minutes.

What does it cost?

Your first week is free. After that it is $15 a week, $50 a month, two months for $80, six months for $119, or a full year for $199. Cancel anytime.

Why is this program inexpensive?

This program was designed for every family in every economic background to be able to afford it. The Flash Method works or your money back!

Can this program be used to advance my child?

Yes — once a student has caught up to grade level, this program can be used to get ahead!
